Diginext strengthens rural communities through digital skills and inclusive training

The DIGINEXT project (Sustainable Digital Engagement for Older Adults and New Professional Profiles in Resilient Rural Areas) is making significant strides across Europe to reduce the digital divide in rural territories. Funded by the European Union, DIGINEXT brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of six organisations from Spain (University of Seville and INCOMA), Italy (CESIE), Greece (KMOP), Austria (die Berater), and Romania (AEAE).

At the heart of DIGINEXT is a commitment to supporting low-skilled adults and older people in rural areas, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to participate fully in today’s digital society. By leveraging the role of Local Action Groups (LAGs), the project promotes a sustainable, inclusive, and community-based approach to adult education and digital transformation.

Generating real impact: from professional profile to training system

Since its inception, DIGINEXT has achieved two major milestones:

  • The creation of the e-Rural Inclusion Specialist role, a new professional profile focused on guiding and supporting adults and older people in digital learning within rural areas.

  • The development of an innovative and comprehensive training course specifically designed for this role, structured around five key pillars: Digital Literacy and Critical Thinking; Digital Public Services and Finance; e-Health; Digital Sustainability; and Digital Participation in Rural Areas.

This training has been designed not only to develop digital competencies but also to foster autonomy, social inclusion, and lifelong learning among vulnerable groups. It incorporates the latest principles of inclusive education, aligns with the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp 2.1), and promotes sustainable, all-age-friendly digital practices.

Take part in the ongoing pilot activities

The project is currently in its “prototyping” phase, where the training course is being implemented in local contexts across Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, and Romania. We invite adult education trainers, local stakeholders, LAGs, and interested institutions to register and be part of this important stage.

Your participation will help shape an adaptable, inclusive training programme with an impact across diverse European rural contexts.
