In today’s rapidly evolving digital society, access to the internet and basic digital skills are no longer luxuries, they are necessities. Yet, for many seniors and low-skilled adults living in rural Europe, digital participation remains out of reach.

The DIGINEXT project is actively changing this narrative.

Funded by the European Union, DIGINEXT aims to bridge the digital divide in rural communities across Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, and Romania. Through a holistic approach that combines adult education, community engagement and innovative training methods, the project is creating real opportunities for people who are often left behind in digital transformations.

At the heart of DIGINEXT is the belief that digital inclusion empowers. Whether it’s learning how to use e-health platforms, safely accessing online financial services, or participating in virtual community events, gaining digital confidence leads to improved quality of life. For older adults, it can mean staying socially connected and independent. For low-skilled adults, it opens doors to learning, employment, and civic engagement.

To support this mission, DIGINEXT is piloting a new professional profile: the e-Rural Inclusion Specialist. These trained professionals are being equipped through a specially designed programme to support learners in rural areas with sensitivity, inclusion, and tailored guidance. The model is being tested through pilot initiatives in each partner country, where real needs are addressed with real tools.

Moreover, the project is powered by strong partnerships with Local Action Groups (LAGs), which serve as local hubs for implementation. By building on existing community trust and knowledge, DIGINEXT ensures that its impact is deep-rooted and sustainable.

Digital inclusion is not just about technology, it’s about people. With each training session and each empowered learner, DIGINEXT helps build a future where everyone, regardless of age or background, has the chance to thrive in the digital world.
